We are making tracks with the winds now 15 – 20 kn from
behind. Interlude will do half wind speed with the wing and wind sail
configuration. The seas
however have been quite confused with swell directions from two distant
storms and the local wind waves converging. This gives us quite a rolly, bumpy
ride that Katie describes as being in the worst turbulence you have ever
experienced on an airplane but it doesn’t stop. We finally took the whisker
pole down, changed course slightly south and now have smoother ride on a broad reach. We also
noticed the pole had chafed thru the genoa sheet chafe cover over the past
three days (this is a common issue). The load bearing core of the sheet is made
from Spectra
which is very strong and inherently chafe resistant so there was no danger of
the line parting anytime soon. Kurt put a new sacrificial cover on the sheet
while Katie baked a fresh banana/chocolate chip bread.
